Verified Files on FastTrack
Have you ever waited hours for a file to download from the
FastTrack network only to find out it wasn't what you wanted? With the
growing number of fake files on the FastTrack network it is becoming harder to
find what you really want. How can we get around this? There is a
solution. Verified files provide the answer.
So, how do we use verified files to get the content we want?
The only tools required are a FastTrack client (such as KaZaA, Morpheus, or
Grokster) and Sig2Dat. Sig2Dat comes with some clients such as KaZaA Lite
and KLite. If yours doesn't have it, you can download
Sig2Dat
here. What is Sig2Dat? Sig2Dat is a little utility that takes a "hash" of
the file you want and starts the download in your FastTrack client.
So what does this all mean? Let me explain. People
who find a good file on the FastTrack network create a dat file with some
information about the file in it, and then post it to various websites and
forums (online bulletin boards) so others can get the files they want.
Lets take a look at one of these dat files:
File: Example File
Length: 218660512 Bytes, 213536KB
UUHash: =sCtCN3xPiKJ1tqxBaYONvB2Ciu8=
*note* this is a bogus file.
Okay, so let's break it down. The file is the name of the
file you want to download. The length is how big the file is. and
the UUHash is a unique signature for the file, so you can be sure you're getting
the right file.
Now, lets say we want to download something. Copy the
whole signature and select paste from clipboard in Sig2Dat. Once that's
done you'll see some the information added to the bottom of the screen (which is
what the arrow is pointing to).

So, now how do we get the file to download? Simply restart
your FastTrack client (close and then re-open it). The file will be added
to your download list.
There is another method that we can use instead of having to
copy the whole signature. Some places that list verified files have
hyperlinks instead of the whole signature. All you have to do with these
is click on the link and it will be added to your downloads, you may or may not
have to restart your client.
